The O'Neal School announces new tuition fund

The O’Neal School announced the creation of the Bradshaw Tuition Fund for Opportunity Scholarships, a transformative initiative made possible through the generosity of longtime O’Neal supporters and benefactors Stan and Jean Bradshaw. The program will provide 10 50% tuition scholarships to new students entering grades 9 and 10 beginning with the spring semester of the 2026-27 school year.

The scholarships are designed to attract talented, engaged students who will contribute their energy, perspectives, and talents to campus life. By increasing enrollment in grades nine and 10, the initiative seeks to enhance opportunities across academics, athletics, fine arts, leadership, and student activities while strengthening the overall Upper School community.

“We believe every student deserves the opportunity to reach their potential in a community that challenges, supports, and inspires them. Our hope is that these scholarships will open doors for students while helping strengthen the Upper School experience for all O’Neal students.” — Stan Bradshaw

The Bradshaw Tuition Fund for Opportunity Scholarships will provide 50% tuition assistance to 10 students, making an O’Neal education more accessible while helping build a larger and more engaged Upper School community.

The scholarships are renewable each year. Recipients will become part of a select inaugural cohort chosen not only for academic promise, but also for their character, enthusiasm, and desire to contribute positively to school life.

“Stan and Jean Bradshaw have been devoted supporters of O’Neal for many years, and this generous gift demonstrates their commitment to educational opportunity and to the future of our school,” said John Samples, head of school. “Their investment will open doors for deserving students while creating opportunities that benefit our entire Upper School community.”

With increased enrollment comes greater collaboration in the classroom, expanded participation in athletics and fine arts, stronger student organizations, broader leadership opportunities, and a richer educational experience for all students.

The scholarship program seeks students who are eager to learn, lead, collaborate, and engage fully in the opportunities available at O’Neal.

Recipients will be selected not only for their academic ability, but also for their strength of character, intellectual curiosity, enthusiasm, and potential to positively impact the school community.

“We are seeking 10 students of promise, purpose, and potential,” said Samples. “These students will bring their unique gifts and perspectives to O’Neal while pursuing their own goals and aspirations in an environment that encourages growth, achievement, and leadership.”

Families selected for the Bradshaw Tuition Fund for Opportunity Scholarships may also be eligible for additional tuition assistance. Scholarship recipients are encouraged to apply for North Carolina’s Opportunity Scholarship Program, as well as The O’Neal School’s need-based financial aid program. These additional resources may further reduce tuition costs, helping make an O’Neal education accessible to even more students and families.
