Local mom competing in 'Super Mom' contest

My name is Megan Hall, and I’m a breaking news reporter at the Sandhills Sentinel and live near Robbins. I’m writing this article to tell a little bit about myself and hopefully get some support from the community.

I was recently nominated for the Super Mom contest, hosted by Colossal Management in support of the Children’s Miracle Network hospitals.

I’m a mom of three boys: 5-year-old twins and an 11-month-old. My journey into motherhood was a bit rocky.

The twins were born early at 27 weeks, one naturally and one via c-section, followed by three months in the NICU at UNC. The years that followed were filled with specialist appointments and week after week of different therapies for my kids.

My sweet c-section baby was diagnosed with cerebral palsy right before he turned a year old. We were told that early intervention would be critical to help him get the best start in life. He didn’t hit his milestones as fast as his brother, but with a lot of hard work, patience and therapy, we got him there. He started walking when he was almost 2 years old.

During his first week of daycare at age 3, he suffered from a long seizure and was diagnosed with epilepsy. Epilepsy is a common comorbidity of cerebral palsy.

My “plan” was to go back to work eventually, but it became evident pretty quickly that my job going forward would be “medical mom.” My boys needed flexibility, consistency, and someone who could always be there for appointments, therapies, and the unexpected moments that come with medically complex children.

That’s where working for the Sandhills Sentinel changed my life. I’m coming up on two years here, and I genuinely love what I do. The flexibility and support I’ve been given have allowed me to continue caring for my boys while also pursuing my passion projects.

Outside of reporting, I work with overwhelmed mothers who are struggling with stress, burnout, guilt spirals, and feeling like they’re drowning under the weight of motherhood. It’s something I understand deeply because I’ve lived it, and I’m still currently living it.

Motherhood has stretched me in ways I never expected. It has broken me down, rebuilt me, humbled me, and shown me strengths I didn’t know I had. While I don’t always feel like a “super mom,” I know there are countless mothers out there doing heroic things every single day behind closed doors — often without recognition.

If my story resonates with you, I’d truly appreciate your support in the Super Mom contest. More than anything, I hope sharing this reminds another struggling mom that she’s not alone.
