Students evacuate at Union Pines following reported bomb threat

Union Pines High School students and staff evacuated the school following a bomb threat on Wednesday around 1 p.m.

“A Union Pines High School student reported seeing a bomb threat written on the bathroom wall, prompting the immediate evacuation of all students and staff in accordance with established procedures, ” Moore County Schools said to Sandhills Sentinel. “Authorities are currently conducting a full search of the campus, and all students and staff will remain in their designated safe areas until further notice.”

The campus was cleared and deemed safe around 5 p.m.

“We appreciate the prompt response and coordination of our school staff and law enforcement agencies to ensure students and staff remained safe throughout the incident,” said Moore County Schools to Sandhills Sentinel in a follow-up on Thursday morning. “We are also grateful to parents and guardians for their cooperation and understanding.”

The incident remains under investigation by the Moore County Schools Police and the Moore County Sheriff’s Department.
