Obituary for Courtney A. Huntley, Jr. of Southern Pines

Courtney A. “Andy” Huntley, Jr., age 76, of Southern Pines, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at FirstHealth Hospice House in Pinehurst.

Born at Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Southern Pines on October 8th, 1949, he was the firstborn son of the late Courtney A. “Tony” Huntley and Carol Huntley.

Andy, as his friends knew him, was one of the few people born and raised in Moore County. He attended Southern Pines schools for elementary, middle and high school. The Huntley family lived in Raleigh for a short time in 1959, then returned to Moore County in 1963.

Andy helped his father, a businessman and entrepreneur. His father owned several tracts of land on US 1 that have since been developed into commercial property. Andy also helped his father at the Aberdeen drive-in when he was young, but most folks knew Andy from Builders First Source, where he worked as a delivery driver for over 26 years.

He was always good at sports, and in his prime, golf stole his heart. As a young child, he would play golf in Pinehurst while visiting his grandparents, Elizabeth and Samuel Hennessee, and playing with his favorite cousin, Johnny Barry, who lived with his mother’s sister, Aunt Olive Barry. Andy was a devout catholic and befriended many lifetime friends through Golf. He was a lifetime member of the Southern Pines Elks Lodge #1692. Andy was a scratch golfer, and he and his wife, Cindy, played together often.

Andy was born into the Catholic faith and was saved twice. Once when he went into complete heart failure at IHOP, and again when he was in hospice, he accepted the Lord as his Savior.

When Andy met Cindy in 1986, his life changed. They married in 1987 at First Baptist church in Southern Pines. In 1989, their first child, Courtney A. “Tony” Huntley, III was born, and two years and three days later, in 1991, their daughter Danielle Huntley was born. Andy was a loving father and husband.

In addition to his wife and children, Andy is survived by his brothers, Tommy Huntley of Pinebluff, Jay Huntley of Carthage and sister Beth Cunningham of Columbia, South Carolina; two nieces Catherine and Elizabeth.

Funeral services will be at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday at Open Arms Community Church in Vass. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service beginning at 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Pinelawn Memorial Park in Southern Pines.

Services are entrusted to Powell Funeral Home.
