Disturbance, welfare check leads to cocaine bust

A disturbance and welfare check led to a cocaine bust by the Aberdeen Police Department.

The case began on April 20 when officers responded to U.S. Highway 1 and Magnolia Drive for a distribution and welfare check, which eventually led to the arrest of 42-year-old Jamie Horton, of Aberdeen.

“Upon arrival, officers located Horton inside her vehicle and began to investigate,” the Aberdeen Police Department stated in a press release. “Officers immediately observed drug paraphernalia and a jar containing a white powdery substance that appeared to be narcotics, inside the vehicle in plain view.”

Horton was detained and subsequently arrested for misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. The suspected narcotics were submitted to the North Carolina State Crime Lab for testing. The substance tested positive for cocaine on June 19.

Warrants were obtained for Horton for felony possession of Schedule II controlled substance. She was given no bond as a condition of pre-trial release.
