UPDATE: Raheem Mahad Ewing, 43, of West End, was arrested on Aug. 10 and is facing assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, inflicting serious injury, and possession of a firearm by a felon.
A manhunt is underway after a shooting in Aberdeen left one man airlifted in critical condition.
Officers with the Aberdeen Police Department were dispatched at 8:16 p.m. to the Woodlawn Apartments on Magnolia Drive after receiving reports of shots fired.
While officers were en route, dispatchers received another call reporting that a person was lying on the ground and screaming for help.
When officers arrived, they reportedly found a 39-year-old Pinebluff man suffering from two gunshot wounds, one to the chest and one to the shoulder. The victim was flown to an area trauma center in critical condition after first responders administered life-saving measures.
Police told Sandhills Sentinel on scene that they identified a suspect of interest and were conducting a search of the area Wednesday night with the assistance of K-9 units. The last known area the dogs were searching was the hotels behind Starbucks on Columbus Drive and S. Hill Road. He is described as roughly 5’9’’ to 6 feet, wearing a white T-shirt, white shorts, black high-top sneakers and a black durag.

Authorities said the shooting appears to have been an isolated incident.
On Aug. 6, the Aberdeen Police Department issued a press release identifying 43-year-old Raheem Mahad Ewing as the suspect.
“Ewing fled the scene prior to law enforcement arrival,” confirms the department. “At this time, Aberdeen investigators, along with the Moore County Sheriff’s, Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, and State Bureau of Investigations, continue to actively seek out Ewing during this ongoing investigation.”
