A Southern Pines man is accused of stealing more than $1,250 in cash, lottery tickets, cigarettes, and other merchandise from the convenience store where he worked, according to the Aberdeen Police Department.
Police said officers responded July 21 to Ma’s Exxon in Aberdeen after receiving a report of larceny by an employee.
During the investigation, officers obtained statements and reviewed surveillance video that allegedly showed Jaleel Jabar Liles, 28, of Southern Pines, stealing cash from the register and lottery tickets while working that day, according to police.
Liles was arrested and charged with felony larceny by employee. During a search following his arrest, officers reportedly found the cash allegedly stolen that day concealed in various parts of his clothing.
He appeared before a Moore County magistrate and was held without bond.
Police said the investigation continued, and between July 21 and July 24, officers developed additional information indicating Liles had also stolen from the business on July 18 and July 19.
According to authorities, investigators confirmed Liles allegedly stole lottery tickets, cash, and cigarettes during those shifts. Police also allege he gave merchandise to customers without payment. The total value of the stolen property exceeded $1,250.
Investigators obtained additional warrants charging Liles with two more counts of felony larceny by employee, two counts of felony possession of stolen goods, and one count of felony larceny.
The Moore County Sheriff’s Office served the additional warrants while Liles was in custody. He was again ordered held without bond.
All charges are allegations, and Liles is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
