Three-car pile-up stops traffic in Carthage

A three-car pile-up caused extensive damage to several vehicles in Carthage on Tuesday afternoon. The pile-up happened on U.S. 15-501 near Jannie Lane. 

Authorities on scene told Sandhills Sentinel that a Nissan was heading East on U.S. 15-501 when it failed to slow down and struck stopped traffic.

A Durango was waiting to turn left onto Jannie Lane when the Nissan rear-ended the Elantra sitting behind the Durango.

The impact then sent the Elantra into the back of the Durango.

Due to the force of the collision, the Elantra was sandwiched between the two other vehicles, the airbags were deployed, and the back windshield was completely shattered.

The Nissan took significant damage to the front end, and the airbags were deployed as well.

Despite the damage to the vehicles, no one was injured. This was the second three-car collision in Carthage in a matter of minutes.

North Carolina State Highway Patrol and Moore County EMS responded to the scene.
