Viola Butler Monroe, age 88, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at FirstHealth Hospice House on Saturday, January 12, 2019.  

A Celebration of Life Service will be held 2:00 PM, Wednesday, January 16, 2019 at Elise Presbyterian Church in Robbins, where she was a member, with the Reverend Al Trotter and Reverend Jon Neuhs officiating.  Burial will follow in Pine Rest Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service at Kennedy Funeral Home from 12:30 to 1:30 PM. A time of fellowship will follow the committal in the Fellowship Hall of the church.  On Sunday and Monday, the family will be at her home in Robbins.

Viola was born in Moore County to Odell and Ethel McNeill Butler, second of six children.  She graduated from Elise High School in 1948 and attended Business School in Greensboro. She married Norman Fletcher Monroe in 1950 and they raised three children together.  Viola was employed at Dr. Vanore’s office in Robbins, T.I. Wilson Insurance, Hornaday Hatchery, N G Purvis Farms and Carthage Tractor and Implement. She retired from the Moore County Clerk of Court office.  

Viola enjoyed spending time with family and friends which included hanging out at her pool, traveling and shopping.  She also enjoyed baking cakes and pies for others, reading, working on crossword puzzles and crocheting. She loved the Lord and was an active member of her church for many years where she played the organ.  Viola was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Norman Fletcher Monroe; daughter: Ann Monroe Albert; sisters: Betty Butler Wallace and

Christine Butler Hussey; brothers:  Odell Butler Jr.

Viola is survived by sons:  Al and wife Karen, Timmy and wife Roxanne; son in law:  Stoney and wife Cynthia; grandchildren: Stephanie and husband Brandon, Alison and husband Tyler, Ashley and husband Chad, Stuart, Jonathan and wife Alison; great grandchildren:  Wyatt, Maverick, Harper, Reagan, Dakota, Carson, Julia Ann; sister: Laura Ann Brady; brother: Dal Butler.
