Virginia Ann Gemma Jeske Berry, 78 years young, passed away on July 17th, 2026, in her home.
She was born on May 24th, 1948, to William A. Jeske and Dorothy A. Jeske in Flushing Meadows, NY, and raised in Hopkins, MN. She and her husband-to-be graduated from Hopkins High School in 1966. Ginny (as she preferred being called) attended the College of St. Teresa in Winona, MN, graduating with a teaching degree in 1970. A year later, on the 10th of June 1971, she married her husband Guy in the Catholic Chapel at West Point, NY – one day after he had graduated from West Point and been commissioned in the Army as a 2nd Lt.
Ginny was a dedicated and loving wife to Guy for the next 55 years, a mom to Guy III, Christine, and William, along with a great deal of time teaching English on military installations as her Army husband was transferred from post to post (14 times!). Shortly after Guy retired, Ginny found a new calling as Gramma – assisting at her daughter’s home (wherever they were stationed) especially with homeschooling.
She is survived by her husband, Guy, Jr., her brother William D. Jeske, sister-in-law Christine Jeske, sister Edith A. Jeske and brother Duane P. Jeske. Also surviving are son Guy III, daughter Christine M. Hicks, son-in-law D. Lee Hicks, son William A., fourteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A beloved spouse, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend has moved on to higher ground. May God bless us all as we strive to join her and our Lord on that higher ground.
A Vigil service, followed by a Rosary, will be held at 7:00 p.m. on July 28 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 200 Dundee Rd, Pinehurst, NC, 28374.
