Joyce Lane Wallace, 94, went home to her Lord on Thursday, February 15th.

Her funeral will be held at Forbis & Dick Funeral Home, 1118 N. Elm St., Greensboro, N.C. 27401 Tuesday, February 20th at 2:00 P.M. The family will receive friends at the funeral home prior to the service from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. Burial to follow at Westminster Gardens Cemetery, 3601 Whitehurst Rd., Greensboro, NC. 

Joyce was born and raised in Chatham County to the late Daniel and Eudora Thayer Hilliard Phillips. She graduated in 1941 from Bonlee High School. She had attended the Wilton School of Decorating in Chicago, IL. in the 1960’s and became a Master Cake Decorator. After initially working out of her own kitchen, Joyce later opened the Classic Cake Shop in Gastonia, which she ran in the 1970’s and 1980’s and continued making them until her last cake in 2005. In 2010 she moved to Southern Pines to be closer to her daughter.

Joyce was the wife of the late Percy Nathaniel Wallace. She was the mother of Jean Wallace Smith, husband Emery III, of Southern Pines, Kathryn Lane Wallace of Gastonia, and Phillip Wayne Wallace, wife Cynthia, of Fair Play, S.C. She is also survived by her six grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and three step-great-grandchildren. She was the sister of the late Ora, Obert, Barney, Staley, Office, Street and Roland Phillips.
