Sometimes losing teaches a better lesson than winning. That could turn out to be true as the Pinecrest Varsity Baseball team lost their last game of the 3-day West Brunswick Beach Diamond Invitational in Shallotte, NC and now look forward to the rest of their season.

The Patriots lost the game by a score of 8-2 to the eventual beach tournament winners, Northern Guilford High School from Greensboro, NC, who did not lose a game in the tournament.

“Unfortunately, the tournament did not turn out the way we wanted it. But, our players got to see quality opponents, and we learned a lot about our ball club,” said Head Coach Jeff Hewitt.

The team can begin focusing on the rest of the season starting Monday with a conference game at Scotland County. Eight games remain in the season before the 4A Conference Tournament in early May. The game with Union Pines will be the only non-conference game in that stretch.

“We are excited to embark on the last half of our season when we return from break,” said Coach Hewitt.
