Union Pines High School announced Tuesday that Jabe Largen has been named the school’s new head men’s varsity basketball coach.
Largen takes over the Vikings’ program after serving as an assistant coach for the previous three seasons under former head coach Zach Marks. His familiarity with the program, players and Union Pines community will provide continuity as he takes on the leadership of the Vikings’ varsity basketball program.
With 25 years of coaching experience, Largen brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the position. Throughout his coaching career, he has worked with athletes at various age levels, developing a strong understanding of the game and a commitment to helping student-athletes grow both on and off the court.
“We are excited to have Coach Largen lead our men’s basketball program,” said Union Pines Athletic Director Nate Harrington. “His experience, familiarity with our program, and commitment to our student-athletes make him a great fit for Union Pines. We look forward to seeing the program continue to grow under his leadership.”
Largen shared his excitement about the opportunity and his vision for the Vikings’ program.
“I am honored for this opportunity to use some of my gifts and experiences to come alongside a great coaching staff, a tremendous school administration, an athletic department that does things at a championship level, and athletes and families who yearn not only for athletic excellence, but also academic performance, and the development of the principles and practices that can lead to a life that thrives. As for on the court, when November arrives, The Farm will be ready.”
Largen will begin his first season as the Vikings’ head coach this winter and will work with his coaching staff to prepare for the upcoming season. Offseason workouts are already underway, with the start of the season just a few weeks away.
Largen has high expectations for his first year and is looking to lead the Vikings in their pursuit of a Carolina Pines Conference championship.
