Pinecrest High School Football Coach Chris Metzger was celebrated Monday as U.S. Cellular presented him with a donation for winning their national Most Valuable Coach contest.

Metzger received a $50,000 donation for Pinecrest and will also be awarded with a Samsung tech prize package, valued at $30,000.  Metzger has served as the head football coach for the past 11 years and is the winningest coach in the school’s history.

“U.S. Cellular congratulates and commends these coaches for their influential work in their athletes’ lives, schools and communities,” said Jeremy Taylor, at U.S. Cellular. “As a company that strives to be a part of our local communities, we are honored to celebrate and recognize Chris Metzger for his commitment.”

Metzger was selected as one of the top 50 nominees in September.  By making it to the final 15 coaches in October, Metzger won $5,000 for Pinecrest High School where he was honored at the school during an award presentation.

“The $80,000 prize will enable us to expand a reading outreach for our elementary school students,” said Assistant Principal Herb Hanson on the school’s Facebook page in October.  “It will also help us to build a lunch area dedicated to helping unify our student body through a ‘No Student Eats Alone’ program.”
