Pinehurst Police arrests three at checkpoint

On August 14, Pinehurst Police officers arrested three individuals while conducting a traffic checkpoint on Highway 5.

When asked for identification, the driver told officers he did not have his license, according to a press release from the Pinehurst Police Department. Officers instructed the vehicle to pull over, and the vehicle attempted to flee. After a brief pursuit, the driver and two occupants were arrested without incident.

Officers searched the vehicle and found 8.1 grams of methamphetamine, 33 grams of crack cocaine, 42 doses of MDMA, 33 doses of oxycodone, 28.9 grams of marijuana, one Glock 17 pistol with ammunition, several thousand dollars in cash, four cellular phones, and a digital scale.

“Many think crime just doesn’t exist in Pinehurst because we continue to be among the top safest cities in the United States,” said Police Chief Glen Webb. “The fact is Pinehurst is not immune to crime. Our officers work proactively and behind the scenes to keep our community safe.”

Arrested individuals were Juan Montreiz Hernandez, 20, of Bennett, N.C., Charles Spencer, 18, of Aberdeen, and Hailey Wall,18, of Eagle Springs. 

All three were booked into the Moore County Detention Center on multiple charges and are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
