A police pursuit in Aberdeen ended in a crash involving several vehicles and three people in custody on Friday. Staff at the sports store, Going Going Gone!, reported a larceny in progress with the suspects leaving in a gold sedan.
Aberdeen officers observed the suspect vehicle heading south on U.S. 1 toward downtown Aberdeen. Officers attempted a traffic stop at Elm Street, and the vehicle sped up and, as it entered the intersection at Highway 5 and U.S. 1, it crashed into two other vehicles, said Aberdeen Police Chief Brian Chavis.
Three people fled from the sedan. An Aberdeen officer immediately caught one after a foot chase. A second subject was found inside a convenience store. The third subject fled into the woods.
K-9 units from the Pinebluff Police Department and the Sheriff’s Office immediately responded, and a perimeter was set up around the wooded area. After a short time, the third suspect surrendered. No injuries were reported, and identities were not provided.Â
A search of the vehicle turned up suspected drugs and bags of items allegedly stolen from Going Going Gone!, Ross Dress for Less, and T.J. Maxx, said Chavis.
The N.C. State Highway Patrol is handling the crash investigation, which is standard protocol in law enforcement incidents.
