Puppy uninjured in collision outside Carthage

A two-vehicle accident outside Carthage sent one person to the hospital and shut down one lane of U.S. Highway 15-501 for about an hour.

The accident occurred at the intersection of Mason Road.

A Honda Ridgeline truck was attempting to cross the intersection onto Red Branch Road when the driver pulled out in front of a Chevrolet Silverado traveling eastbound.

The collision left the Chevrolet truck sitting in the westbound lane with heavy, passenger-side damage, and the passenger rear wheel ripped off the vehicle. The driveshaft was also broken in half. The Honda had moderate front-end damage.

The male driver of the Chevrolet refused treatment, and the female passenger was transported to Moore Regional Hospital with minor injuries.

All occupants of the Honda were checked out by EMS at the scene but did not require transport. A puppy that was sitting with the passenger in the front seat was also uninjured.

The westbound lane of Highway 15-501 was shut down while crews worked the scene and the roadway could be cleared.

N.C. State Highway Patrol was on scene investigating the crash.

Responding to the scene were Carthage Fire Department, Moore County EMS and N.C. Highway Patrol.
