The Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) will permanently close the ParkRDU Economy 4 parking lot to airport guests beginning Jan. 2. The area will be converted to employee-only parking as part of an expansion of the ParkRDU Economy 3 lot.
The change comes as RDU also announced the beginning of major construction at one of its terminals in early January 2026 as part of the airport’s long-term expansion plans.
The Economy 4 lot, located near Interstate 540 and U.S. 70, will no longer be available to travelers. A statement from the airport cites that guests will continue to have multiple on-airport parking options to accommodate a range of budgets and preferences.
Available options include ParkRDU Premier and ParkRDU Central, both located at 1091 Airport Blvd. in Morrisville and within walking distance of Terminals 1 and 2. Travelers seeking shuttle service may use ParkRDU Express, located at 1725 West International Drive, which offers luggage assistance and complimentary bottled water. ParkRDU Economy 3, located at 1020 National Guard Drive, remains the airport’s lowest-cost parking option and provides free 24/7 shuttle service every 20 minutes.
The ParkRDU Economy 3 lot is undergoing a major expansion that will add approximately 7,000 parking spaces, along with a customer amenity building, electric vehicle chargers, solar panels, and an enhanced stormwater management system.
Airport officials encouraged travelers to plan ahead and book parking at least 24 hours in advance online to guarantee entry into their preferred parking facility.
