Sanford woman facing charges in Aberdeen methadone theft case

A Sanford woman has been arrested in connection with the alleged theft of methadone from a local facility, according to the Aberdeen Police Department.

On March 4, Aberdeen officers responded to Dahlia Gardens Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation after a report of a discrepancy in the methadone inventory. Investigators identified Betty Sanderford, 47, of Sanford, as a suspect after reviewing records and interviewing staff.

Police said Sanderford stopped returning to work following the incident, and multiple attempts to locate her were unsuccessful. A warrant for felony larceny by an employee was issued on March 18.

After months of searching, investigators located Sanderford in Sanford on Oct. 9 and took her into custody. She was taken before a Moore County magistrate and released on a written promise to appear in court.

All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
