A Sanford woman is facing multiple charges, including felony drug possession, after Aberdeen police say she resisted officers and was in possession of drugs during an August arrest.
Officers responded to a report of a suspicious person on Longleaf Road on Aug. 16 and found a woman identified as Zoee Rayon, 20, of Sanford. Police said she appeared “hysterical” and smelled of alcohol. She was confirmed to be under 21 and submitted a breath sample indicating she had consumed alcohol.
“Officers attempted to place her under arrest for Misdemeanor Consumption of Alcohol by a 19/20 year old, but she continuously resisted and pulled away,” reports the Aberdeen Police Department in a press release. “After she was successfully detained, she was placed into a patrol vehicle where she continued to actively resist officers, kicking officers, and attempting to injure herself inside the patrol vehicle. She also continuously cursed in the presence of civilians and refused to stop or cooperate.”
Officers searched a bag on her person and reported finding suspected marijuana, paraphernalia, and a plastic bag containing a crystal-like substance suspected to be narcotics.
Rayon was charged with misdemeanor assault on a government official, resisting, delaying, and obstructing, intoxicated and disruptive behavior, possession of marijuana, and possession of marijuana paraphernalia.
The suspected narcotics were sent to the State Crime Lab. Police said testing on Oct. 8 confirmed the substance was cocaine.
A warrant for felony possession of cocaine was issued on Nov. 18.
Rayon was located by the Lee County Sheriff’s Office on Nov. 26 and taken before a magistrate, who issued a $10,000 secured bond.
All suspects and persons charged with a crime are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
