Bruce Cunningham died Friday while on vacation in Ireland. Cunningham was a prominent local attorney and long-term member of the Moore County Board of Education, having been first elected in 2004. He also served as the Chair from 2014-2016. He would have been up for re-election in 2020.

Cunningham had a history of service to the community. He was a co-founder of the Tour de Moore and served as director until 2010. In 2017, he was honored with the Builder’s Cup Award by the Kiwanis.

Bruce attended the University of North Carolina as a Morehead Scholar and attended law school at the University of Virginia.

He practiced law since 1973 and had an office in downtown Southern Pines.
