Moore County Public Safety officials continue to monitor Crystal Lake in the Lakeview community just south of Vass. Currently, no water is flowing over the dam or roadway from Tropical Storm Chantal.
In an effort to lower the water levels of the lake and reduce pressure from the dam, all spillway gates are open and releasing water in a controlled manner in consultation with the North Caroling Dam Safety Inspector. Officials continue to monitor the low-lying areas below the dam for flooding. Residents should take precautions and continue to monitor the condition of the dam.
Emergency shelter operations will open on Monday, July 7, at 7:00 p.m., located at the Moore County Agricultural Center, 707 Pinehurst Ave., Carthage.
“We encourage citizens to continue to be aware of flooding across the county,” said Moore County Department of Public Safety Director Bryan Phillips in a press release. “During the nighttime, flooded roadways are difficult to see. If you approach these conditions ‘Turn Around Don’t Drown.'”
