Law enforcement investigating Pinebluff shooting

Moore County Sheriff Ronnie Fields announced the death of one person following a shooting in the Carthage area that was initially reported to be in Cameron.

On Friday, March 25 at approximately 9:36 p.m., Moore County sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a disturbance in the 300 block of Gilchrist Road in Carthage. Upon arriving, deputies found 23-year-old James Edward McCormick IV outside of the residence with an apparent gunshot wound. Deputies and medical personnel administered emergency medical aid to McCormick IV, who was pronounced deceased a short time later.

Sheriff’s investigators determined that McCormick IV had been shot by his father, James McCormick III, following an altercation. It was reported that James McCormick IV arrived at the residence, damaged property inside the residence, and physically assaulted multiple family members prior to being shot.
