Sheriff warns trespassing citations

Moore County Sheriff Ronnie Fields is warning citizens of the dangers of trespassing at the Glendon Rock Quarry after deputies issued nearly 100 second-degree trespassing citations over Memorial Day weekend.

“The quarry is privately owned and posted “No Trespassing” in many locations,” said Fields about the rock quarry that is located north of Carthage on Glendon-Carthage Road. “Contrary to popular belief, this area is not a public gathering/swimming area that is open to all.”

Fields said the quarry is unsafe due to “jagged rocks and uneven terrain can lead to serious injury or even death.”

Deputies are maintaining a presence at the site, and “violators will be prosecuted.”
