Southern Pines Library announces summer reading program

The Southern Pines Public Library’s summer reading program, fREADom, kicks off June 1 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Sunrise Theater’s greenspace. The town announced in a press release that the event includes live music, free T-shirts, tote bags for summer fun, and refreshments.

The fREADom program encourages children of all ages to develop a passion for reading. Readers of all ages can log books read, write reviews, and attend special programing. Last summer, more than 900 readers participated in the program. Online pre-registration is now at www.sppl.net.

Other summer programs include Touch a Truck at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 21, at Pool Park, where kids can get up close to town vehicles like fire trucks, police cars, and construction equipment.

On July 1, starting at 3:30 p.m., fREADom Fox Trot will take participants on a journey around downtown Southern Pines as they search for the fox and bird mascots who will be hiding in participating businesses. Completed stamp books can be turned in at the library for a chance to win a prize sponsored by a local business.
