A Southern Pines man is in jail on rape, kidnapping and other charges, said the Moore County Sheriff’s Office.
Moore County Sheriff’s Deputies Sunday conducted interviews at Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst for a reported sexual assault.
On the same day, deputies arrested Maurice Antonio Hailey, 42, of Southern Pines, and charged him with one count of first degree forcible rape, one count of second degree kidnapping, one count of assault by strangulation, and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia.
According to information from the Moore County Detention Center the alleged crime took place on Friday in Southern Pines.

The suspect is being held without bond and is scheduled to appear in court on May 2.
No further details were provided.
All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
