SP man arrested on 13 charges after high-speed chase

Moore County Sheriff Ronnie Fields announced an arrest following an attempted traffic stop that resulted in a vehicle pursuit beginning in Moore County and ending in Richmond County.

On Tuesday, at approximately 7:15 p.m., deputies with the Moore County Sheriff’s Office observed a Toyota Camry in the Pinebluff area, which deputies knew the driver of the vehicle, Pedro Elliot, to have outstanding warrants for his arrest. When deputies attempted to initiate a traffic stop, Elliot fled, driving at a high rate of speed and attempting to elude the deputies, said Fields in a press release.

Deputies pursued Elliot into Richmond County where the vehicle stopped at the intersection of Ledbetter Road and Beaverdam Church Road. After the vehicle came to a stop, Elliot abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot into a wooded area, said Fields. Deputies continued their pursuit on foot, apprehending Elliot a short time later and transporting him to the Moore County Detention Center.

Elliot, 55, of Southern Pines, was arrested on charges of felony flee to elude arrest, fail to heed light or siren, reckless driving to endanger, reckless driving wanton disregard, resisting public officer, speeding, driving left of center, fail to maintain lane of travel, improper passing on right, lane change signal violation, open alcoholic container, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Elliot was also served with a pending arrest warrant for violation of probation.

Elliot was committed to the Moore County Detention Center and is being held without bond, with a first court appearance scheduled for Sept. 18 in Moore County district court.

All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
