Sports wrap-up: Three O'Neal teams dominate

North Moore Men’s Basketball:

Last week, men’s varsity basketball are off to a 1-1 start. On Tuesday, the Mustangs opened their season with a 54-45 win at South Stanley. On Wednesday, they had their home opener against South Davidson. They lost that game 55-47. 

The women’s varsity basketball opened their season Wednesday at home against South Davidson and lost 56-29. 

O’Neal School:

Both the men’s and women’s swim team remains undefeated on the season. The men’s team defeated Trinity School of Durham and Chapel Hill 89-59. The women’s team defeated both teams 89-49. 

Individual Performances:

Lauren Hobbs won the 200-meter and 500-meter freestyle.

Vicki York and Alex Grimshaw won the 200-meter IM.

Jace Brown and Henry Reibe finished first and second in the 50-meter and 100-meter freestyle.

Michaela Stone and John Shepherd won the 100-meter backstroke.

Chloe Abner won the 100-meter breast-stroke. 

The final first-semester meet is scheduled at O’Neal against St. David’s and Trinity Academy on Dec. 14.

Last Tuesday, the O’Neal men’s varsity basketball defeated Westchester County Day on the road in a nail-biter 45-42. They finished up the week at Freedom Christian Academy with a blowout win 61-20. The men’s basketball team is 3-3 on the season. 

The women’s varsity basketball team continued their winning streak this past week. On Tuesday, they definitely Westchester 46-11. Thursday, they defeated Freedom Christian Academy 55-28. They are an impressive 5-1 on the season. 

Pinecrest:

The Patriots wrestling team defeated No. 1 ranked Laney 48-28. The Patriots went 5-0 on the day Saturday and are 14-0 on the Dual team season. 

The men’s varsity basketball team won both games last week. On Tuesday, the Patriots defeated Middle Creek at home 78-55. On Friday, the Patriots hosted Purnell Swett and defeated them 67-49. They are now 2-1 on the season.

The women’s varsity basketball team took their first loss of the year late last week. On Tuesday, the Patriots defeated Middle Creek at home 42-35. On Wednesday, they traveled to Hoggard to grab a 34-33 victory. They took their first loss Friday hosting Purnell Swett 53-38. The Lady Patriots are now 3-1 on the season. 

Union Pines: 

The Vikings wrestling team traveled to Lake Norman to compete in the Lake Norman Duals on Saturday. They won 2-5 matches. 

Union Pines lost to No. 20 Fred T. Foard 47-42. 

The Vikings defeated No. 2 Baylor School, TN 55-50.

No. 14 ranked Lake Norman defeated the Vikings 46-16. 

West Forsyth, GA over the Vikings 33-25.

Christianburg was defeated by the Vikings 36-24. 

The men’s varsity basketball is off to a great start this season with a 5-0 record. On Tuesday, the Vikings traveled to South Randolph to seal a 55-35 victory. On Wednesday, they hosted Western Harnett and got a blowout win 66-26. On Friday, the Vikings hosted Montgomery County and finished the week out strong with a 73-31 win. 

The women’s varsity basketball team had success last week but not before losing on the road to South Randolph 65-38. Wednesday, they changed that and took a big home victory against Western Harnett 59-19. They continued to play strong at home on Friday night defeating Montgomery County 42-39. 

Sandhills Community College:

The flyers are trying to overcome their early-season struggles by winning both games last week. On Wednesday, the Flyers hosted Patrick Henry and clinched a victory 95-77. They continued their week Saturday at home against Caldwell CC with another victory 73-67.

Pinecrest Men’s Basketball:

Pinecrest Women’s Basketball:

12/6 5:30 p.m. at O’Neal (5-1)

Union Pines Men’s Basketball:
