Southern Pines Police Department is investigating a homicide that took place at Creston Commons Apartments Monday. Authorities were called to Talmadge Way just before 10 p.m. The victim died at the scene from gunshot wounds.

A warrant for arrest was issued for Gregory Elijuan Gay, Jr.,18, for first-degree murder, and the department is asking for the public’s help in locating the suspect.

Gay is described as 5’9 and weighing 180 pounds.

“The investigation has revealed that this was not a random act of violence and was the result of a domestic incident between the victim and suspect,” said Southern Pines Police Department in a news release. “The investigation has indicated that this was an isolated incident; however, the suspect should be considered Armed and Dangerous. No additional information pertaining to this investigation will be released, as this investigation is still ongoing and the release of information could jeopardize the investigative process and future court prosecutions.”

There was another shooting in Southern Pines days earlier. A person was shot on Shaw Avenue in the Brookside Apartment Complex at 6:30 Friday evening.

The 23-year-old male victim was transported to the ballfield in Southern Pines by EMS where a helicopter airlifted the man to UNC Hospitals Trauma Center. The victim suffered two gunshot wounds. This investigation is ongoing.

This is the second shooting Sandhills Sentinel has reported on at Creston Commons in less than five months. A man was shot at the apartments in July. The victim was transported by ambulance to Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.

Trez Allah Shon Farmer, 20, of Southern Pines, was arrested in Fayetteville hours later and charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury. Authorities stated Farmer and the victim knew each other. At the time, authorities did not identify the victim or his condition.
