The Town of Southern Pines had a discharge of untreated wastewater on Wednesday of an estimated 4,600 gallons along the reservoir trail, west of N.C. Highway 22.
The untreated wastewater was discharged into Mill Creek, said Southern Pines Utilities Superintendent Ron Istre in a press release.
The utilities division was notified of the event at approximately 1:35 p.m. All efforts to mitigate wastewater release were taken. Repairs were completed, and the system returned to service at approximately 2:05 p.m., and cleanup and sanitizing efforts were conducted.
