Union Pines High School Navy JROTC unit holds annual Pass-in-Review

The Navy Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps unit at Union Pines High School conducted its annual Pass in Review on Feb. 18 as part of the Area 5 Manager’s Inspection.

A pass-in-review is a formal military ceremony in which cadets march in formation before a reviewing officer to “demonstrate discipline, readiness, and precision.” Officials with Moore County Schools said the Viking cadets carried out the ceremony with professionalism and pride.

The Navy JROTC program is a high school leadership and citizenship development program sponsored by the U.S. Navy. It teaches students leadership skills, civic responsibility, physical fitness, and military traditions, though it does not require participants to join the armed forces.

“The Union Pines NJROTC unit continues to distinguish itself as a Distinguished Unit with Honors, reflecting its strong foundation of leadership, service, and academic excellence,” writes Moore County Schools in a statement. “Beyond competition, these cadets serve as leaders across campus and throughout our community, embodying the core values of honor, courage, and commitment every day.”

One of the program’s highlights this year included the NJROTC Air Rifle Team competing at the Navy Service Championships in Columbia, Missouri. It marked only the second time in school history that the team advanced to nationals.

School officials said they are proud of the “dedication and growth” demonstrated by the Union Pines NJROTC unit both on campus and in the community.
