The United States Golf Association (USGA) is seeking a volunteer docent to help welcome visitors and lead tours at its new USGA Experience and World Golf Hall of Fame campus in Pinehurst.
“As the first point of contact for those arriving for guided tours at the USGA Experience and World Golf Hall of Fame, the Volunteer Docent is a brand representative responsible for creating a welcoming environment and providing excellent customer service,” explains the USGA. “As a nonprofit association, our work and our team are driven to act for the good of the game.”
The role is an unpaid, part-time position that serves as the first point of contact for guests. Docents greet visitors, answer questions, and guide tours through exhibits on both floors of the building. They may also assist with events, such as meetings and conferences, by helping register and direct attendees.
The schedule varies and may include Tuesday and Thursday shifts from 1 to 4 p.m., along with occasional evening and weekend hours. The association estimates the commitment at three to six hours per week. The volunteer will join three other docents and work closely with on-site welcome ambassadors.
Candidates should enjoy interacting with the public and be able to communicate clearly and professionally. The USGA lists punctuality, strong organizational skills, and a “professional and conscientious disposition” among its preferences. Volunteers should be comfortable working independently and as part of a team.
