Moore County is sharing updates concerning Debby, including the latest weather details from the National Weather Service in Raleigh at www.moorecountync.gov.

Moore County is not aware of any mandatory evacuations at this time. Moore County Chairman Nick Picerno declared a State of Emergency as of Aug. 7 at 8 a.m., which includes a voluntary evacuation of low-lying and flood-prone areas of the unincorporated area of Moore County-Highway 690, beginning at the McGill Road intersection, headed east toward the Cumberland County Line (Fort Liberty) communities, including, but not limited to, Riverview and Riverbend along the Little River or Crains Creek water source.

The request is for citizens to voluntarily evacuate from low-lying areas subject to flooding and mobile homes. This is necessary for the preservation of life in and around the threatened areas.

The voluntary order is effective at noon on Thursday, Aug. 8.

Tropical Storm Debby’s landfall projection is late Wednesday night/early Thursday morning. Rainfall of 5 to 10 inches with locally 15 inches will cause flooding. Water rescues will likely be required if people are on the road and stay in the affected areas.

Officials expect electrical power outages and flooded roadways as the storm passes through the county. Downed power lines and trees will hamper responses by emergency services until paths can be cleared and the sustained winds drop below 45 miles per hour.
