Wagram woman facing charges in repeat rental theft case

Police arrested a Wagram woman Saturday after she reportedly failed to return a rental van, according to the Aberdeen Police Department.

Officers said Cecily Cromartie, 46, rented a U-Haul for two days but failed to return it. The rental company informed police that they had tried contacting her without success. Law enforcement responded to the home address that Cromartie provided the company at the time of the rental, but the property given was abandoned. Additional attempts were made to locate Cromartie, but they were unsuccessful.

It was then determined that Cromartie had an outstanding warrant for Felony Fail to Return Hired Motor Vehicle issued by the Moore County Sheriff’s Office from a separate incident. Another warrant was obtained on Cromartie for Felony Fail to Return Hired Motor Vehicle.

Cromartie was located Sept. 27 by Aberdeen Police officers, and she was arrested and taken before a Moore County Magistrate. She was served with both warrants and given a custody release.

All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
