A West End man has been charged in connection with the theft of a U-Haul truck and a camper in an investigation that spanned several months, according to the Aberdeen Police Department.
On Aug. 27, Aberdeen officers responded to Jus Storage in Aberdeen after receiving a report of a U-Haul truck stolen two days earlier. The day after receiving this report, the stolen truck was located by the Southern Pines Police Department and was reportedly being driven by Ronald Cameron, 39.
Cameron was taken into custody by Aberdeen officers on charges of felony larceny of a motor vehicle and felony possession of a stolen vehicle.
However, Cameron experienced a medical emergency that prevented him from being taken before a Magistrate, and was instead taken to Moore Regional Hospital for treatment.
On Sept. 16, Aberdeen officers received a separate report from a victim who advised that his camper had been stolen from his home off Highway 5 in Aberdeen in July. Upon further investigation at the time of the report, it was determined that the camper was previously located in Pinebluff on August 21 by the Moore County Sheriff’s Office. Cameron was the one found to be in possession of the stolen camper at that time.
On Sept. 17, a warrant was obtained for Cameron for an additional count of felony larceny of a motor vehicle.
Attempts were made to locate Cameron, but he was not immediately apprehended in Aberdeen. On Oct. 19, Cameron was successfully served by the Moore County Sheriff’s Office, taken before a Moore County magistrate, and given no bond as a condition of pre-trial release.
All suspects and persons charged with a crime are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
