Woman airlifted after Pinehurst collision

A woman was flown to a trauma center after a wreck in Pinehurst late Wednesday afternoon. The crash happened at the intersection of N.C. Highway 211 and Page Road in Pinehurst shortly before 5 p.m.

During the crash, a Chevrolet Suburban veered from the roadway and struck a utility pole, while a Nissan Sentra came to rest in the middle of the roadway with its front end crushed. Both vehicles suffered extensive damage due to the force of the impact.

Due to the ongoing investigation, the cause of the crash was not disclosed on scene.

Medics transported the injured woman by ambulance to a landing zone established at the Arboretum, where a helicopter waited to airlift her for further treatment. The conditions of the other passengers were not immediately released.

Traffic in the area was rerouted as firefighters, police, and EMS crews worked to investigate, remove the vehicles, and clear debris.

The Pinehurst Fire Department, Moore County EMS and Pinehurst Police Department all responded.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
