Woman airlifted after tanker truck collides with car in Pinebluff

A collision between a tanker truck and a car seriously injured a woman in Pinebluff Friday. The impact created a debris field that extended over 100 feet on and off the road. The accident occurred on Highway 1 at the intersection with Addor Road just before midnight.

Authorities on the scene advised the driver of a Kia sedan was attempting to cross U.S. 1 from Addor Road when she was struck by the tanker truck heading northbound.

The impact almost completely sheared off the front of the Kia sedan, leaving parts of both vehicles scattered in the roadway. The tanker truck came to rest in the median. The tanker was not carrying any hazardous cargo.

Due to the severity of her injuries, the driver of the Kia was transported to the Pinebluff ball field and was airlifted to a trauma center in serious but stable condition. The truck driver was also transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The N.C. Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.
