Shortly after 7 a.m. on Tuesday, authorities were dispatched to Excitement Couples Boutique in downtown Southern Pines following a report that a vehicle crashed into the business on SW Broad Street.
First responders arrived on the scene to the business’ front window completely shattered and heavy damage to several displays within the shop. Shelves had been destroyed from the impact, and the area was littered with shattered glass and debris.
According to Southern Pines Fire Chief Mike Cameron, the driver hit the gas pedal instead of the brake and drove into the store. Cameron said the older man was not injured.
There was no structural damage to the building, according to Cameron.
