WPPD sees increase in 'late-night antics' by juveniles

The Whispering Pines Police Department said it has seen an increase in ‘late-night antics’ being committed by juveniles.

The Whispering Pines Police Department, on the village’s website, said Thursday that the department has received several calls recently related to someone ringing doorbells and kicking or banging on the front doors of homes late at night.

While juveniles might not completely understand the dangers associated with these antics, the police department and homeowners take them seriously, said the police department. Juveniles might think this is a game, a harmless prank, or the latest TikTok challenge, but they need to understand that homeowners might take this as an attempted burglary, which could lead to serious or potentially deadly consequences, said the department.

“We are encouraging all parents to have a serious conversation with their children and explain to them these dangers and potential consequences of their actions.” said the police department. “We also encourage any resident who becomes a victim of one of these antics to contact the police department immediately. Immediate reporting of the incident increases the chances of the juveniles being caught.”

The Whispering Pines Police Department’s nonemergency phone number is 910-949-9961.
