Aberdeen Police investigating armed robber at Speedway

The Aberdeen Police Department is investigating an armed robbery that occurred at Speedway Monday evening.

The first of two armed robberies took place at the gas station on Highway 5 just before 8:30 p.m.

The suspect entered the store with a firearm and demand money from the register, Aberdeen Police Chief Carl Colasacco told Sandhills Sentinel on Wednesday. The suspect left with an undisclosed amount of cash.

The second armed robbery took place at the Short Stop convenience store and gas station in Lakeview near Vass.

“Shortly after 9 pm, an unknown male subject entered the store located at 4396 U.S. 1, brandished a firearm to the store clerk, and demanded money from the cash register,” said Moore County Sherriff Ronnie Fields in a Tuesday news release. “The unknown suspect, whose face was covered, left the store with an undisclosed amount of money.”

Fields said the suspect left the store “on foot in an unknown direction.”

No injuries were reported in either robbery. According to Colasacco, they believe the robberies are connected.
