A two-vehicle accident on Pennsylvania Avenue in Southern Pines broke a power pole and sent two people to the hospital Saturday morning.
Emergency crews were paged at 9:27 a.m. for the accident between a Lincoln Navigator and an SUV at the corner of West Pennsylvania and North Hardin Street.
During the collision, the red Navigator slammed into a power pole snapping it at the base. The vehicle took out a small Christmas tree that was in front of the power pole. The other vehicle, a black SUV, suffered extensive damage.

Two people were transported by EMS to the hospital. The victims’ names and the extent of their injuries weren’t immediately released by authorities.
Pennsylvania Avenue between Gaines and Carlisle Street remained shutdown awaiting crews from Duke Progress Energy to replace the power pole. Southern Pines Police Department is investigating the cause of the accident.
This is the second accident involving a vehicle crashing into a power pole this week. On Tuesday morning, a vehicle slammed into a power pole knocking down the power lines closing down Highway 5 in Aberdeen.
Responding to the scene were Southern Pines Fire & Rescue, Moore County EMS, and Southern Pines Police.
