Driver runs stop sign, strikes tree in Cameron

A young male driver was able to walk away uninjured after crashing his truck into a tree in Cameron on Saturday night. The single-vehicle crash occurred around 7:30 p.m. on N.C. 24-27 at the intersection with Bass Road near the Skymart gas station.

Emergency units arrived to find a Chevrolet Silverado that had collided head-on with a tree, sustaining significant front-end damage.

Highway Patrol on scene told Sandhills Sentinel that the driver failed to stop at the stop sign, skidded across the intersection, and slammed into the tree.

The driver was evaluated by EMS but did not appear to be injured and was not transported.

One lane of N.C. 24-27 was shut down for just over an hour as crews worked to clear the scene and remove the vehicle.

Responding to the incident were Cypress Pointe Fire Department, Moore County EMS, the Moore County Sheriff’s Office, and the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
