Arrest made in check fraud case

An arrest related to a check fraud case has been made after an investigation by the Moore County Sheriff’s Department.

“On Friday, November 24, 2023, the Moore County Sheriff’s Office received a report for forgery of checks in the Carthage area of Moore County after fraudulent checks had been drawn against the victim’s account and deposited,” said Moore County Sheriff Ronnie Fields in a press release.

On Feb. 11, sheriff’s investigators arrested Tsion Forrest, 22, of Virginia Beach, Virginia, on charges of one count of felony uttering a forged instrument and one count of felony obtaining property by false pretense.

“Other suspects have been identified as being involved, and more charges and arrests are pending,” said Fields. “Anyone with information regarding this matter is requested to please contact the Moore County Sheriff’s Office Tip Line at 910-947-4444.”

Forrest was placed at the Moore County Detention Center under a $10,000 secured bond. He is due in court on Feb. 28 and is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
