The Moore County Board of Education will conduct a public hearing at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 3, in the boardroom of the Central Office at 5277 U.S. HWY 15-501 S, in Carthage. The purpose of this public hearing is to receive input on the superintendent’s recommendation to build a new Carthage Elementary School on a new site with a core capacity of 600.

The core of a school is the common areas, such as the library and cafeteria. At the time of the initial build, the classrooms may only have a capacity of 450, but the larger core would allow additional classrooms to be added in the future.

“We invite all those interested to attend and provide feedback at the public hearing,” said the school district in a news release. “If you are unable to attend, you may use this feedback form through Friday, January 31, 2025, to share your thoughts on the new Carthage Elementary School proposal. You may also livestream the public hearing if you are unable to make it to the meeting.”
