Arrest made in statutory rape investigation

Moore County Sheriff Ronnie Fields announced the arrest of one person following an investigation in the West End area.

On Tuesday, Sept. 17, the Moore County Sheriff’s Office received a report of alleged statutory rape. On Friday, Oct. 11, sheriff’s investigators arrested Jamie Faye Vest, 28, of Southern Pines.

Vest is facing charges of three counts of statutory rape and one count of statutory sex offense and was admitted to the Moore County Detention Center under a no bond pending a first court appearance in Moore County district court on Wednesday, Oct. 30.

According to jail records, the statutory rape charges are listed as statutory rape of a child aged 15 or less, and the statutory sex offense charge is listed as against a person who is 13 years old by a defendant who is at least six years older than the victim. The alleged offense date is listed as July 1.

Defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
