Denim & Glitz Benefit raises $90K to support survivors of human trafficking

Changing Destinies Ministry hosted the Denim & Glitz Benefit on Nov. 8 at the Pinehurst Fair Barn. The event raised $90,494.46 for survivors of human trafficking through Rachel’s Refuge. Local businesses, churches, and community members attended the fundraiser.

“Rachel’s Refuge is ready to open, yet in order to truly make an impact, we need a skilled Care Team to support women affected by complex trauma,” said Kym Nixon, executive director of Changing Destinies Ministry, in a press release. “All donations from the Denim & Glitz event will go directly toward hiring and training this team, ensuring they can provide the care these women deserve.”

The evening featured activities, including live and silent auctions, raffles, musical performances, and moments of heartfelt connection. Dr. Kevin Snyder led the live auction while the Carolina Jr. Orchestra performed for the crowd. The music of Ken Squires of Some Beach Music and Taylor Bowersock, a singer and songwriter, also played at the event. A highlight of the evening was Dr. Jeanne L. Allert’s keynote, inspiring attendees with her message and dedication to supporting trafficking survivors’ healing journey.

“The Denim & Glitz Benefit was a powerful reminder of the strength of community and its ability to make a meaningful impact,” said Changing Destinies Ministry in the press release. “We are now one step closer to providing the comprehensive care that survivors of human trafficking desperately need, empowering them to rebuild their lives.”

Changing Destinies Ministry is a nonprofit organization that provides a place of refuge for sex-trafficked women through a Christ-centered residential program.
