A housekeeper at Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst was recently honored with an award.
Delphine “Dorothy” Nicholson is the most recent winner of FirstHealth’s BEE Award.
The BEE (Beyond Exceptional Expectations) Award honors non-nurses who support nurses in delivering exceptional patient care.
Nicholson has worked in environmental services for 22 years, and she has spent almost all of that time caring for the Women & Children’s department. She is known as an exceptional housekeeper, a respected mentor, and a caring friend who brings positivity and encouragement to everyone she meets.
An employee in Women & Children’s nominated Nicholson for her willingness to go the extra mile, her attention to detail, and her commitment to making sure her team is taken care of.
“She exhibits a tireless and selfless dedication to the ‘Women’s and Children’s hive’,” said the employee. “The NICU at FirstHealth Moore Regional has been CLABSI-free for 1,686 days as of May. This would not be possible without the clean, sanitized and safe environment Dorothy provides for patients, visitors and team members. She enhances patient care and the patient experience. The level of detail, attention and care she puts into every area she touches is immediately noticed. Dorothy knows and embraces that cleanliness is vital to patient care, well-being and safety.”
Thomas (T.P.) King, director of environmental services at the hospital, said Nicholson is a shining example of excellence, dedication and teamwork.
“Her commitment to maintaining high standards is evident in her willingness to guide others on proper cleaning procedures and best practices,” King said in a hospital press release. “Dorothy has also played a vital role in mentoring and training many new housekeepers, helping them develop the skills and confidence needed to succeed. Beyond her daily responsibilities, she demonstrates genuine compassion for others by helping raise funds for coworkers in need and supporting her team whenever possible.
