Body found in debris during woods fire

The body of a man was found while firefighters battled a woods fire involving a structure in the Cameron area Tuesday afternoon.

Around 5 p.m., Cypress Pointe Fire Department was dispatched to a woods fire in the area of Harman Road and Needmore Road just inside of Harnett County.

While en route, fire crews were informed that there was also possibly a structure involved and that there were several small explosions occurring possibly due to propane tanks on the property and live ammunition inside the structure.

Additional crews were dispatched and once on scene, an attack began on the woods fire and the small shack. Once the fire was knocked down and firefighters began checking hot spots, the body was discovered.

Harnett County Sheriff’s Department was immediately contacted and an investigation began. As of late Tuesday evening, they were still on scene and this is an ongoing investigation.

The identity of the body has not been released at this time as this is a developing story.

Responding to the scene were Cypress Pointe Fire Department, Crains Creek Fire Department, Spout Springs Fire Department, Harnett County Forestry Service, Harnett County Fire Marshal and Harnett County Sheriff’s Office.
