Car overturns in Southern Pines crash

One person was injured in a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of East Indiana Avenue and North Bethesda Road in Southern Pines Sunday evening.

Authorities on scene told Sandhills Sentinel that during the collision, a Hyundai sedan was sent off the roadway, where it overturned and landed on its roof with the driver trapped inside.

When the first fire units arrived on the scene, they found a female driver pinned in the overturned car. Firefighters used hydraulic tools to gain access to the victim and safely remove her from the vehicle.

After being evaluated by paramedics at the scene, she was transported to FirstHealth Moore Regional with non-life-threatening injuries.

There were no injuries reported for the occupants of the Honda Element.

Southern Pines police remained on scene to continue investigating the wreck. Law enforcement advised that they have no further information at this time and are working to confirm the direction of travel and the cause of the accident.

Both East Indiana Avenue and North Bethesda Road were closed while emergency crews worked the scene.

Moore County EMS and Southern Pines Fire and Rescue responded, along with a rescue unit from Aberdeen Fire and Rescue.
