Commissioners ask citizens to assist Transylvania residents in Helene relief

During a Regular Meeting held Monday, Dec. 2, the Moore County Board of Commissioners adopted a resolution requesting Moore County citizens consider assisting Transylvania County citizens with specific resources in response to Hurricane Helene.

Transylvania County was significantly impacted by Helene in September, and on Nov. 6, the Moore County Board of Commissioners approved a resolution “adopting” Transylvania County to assist with disaster recovery efforts. Subsequent communications with Transylvania County officials have identified some specific needs that Moore County citizens may be able to assist with, including cold weather resources, housing assistance, and debris removal.

A collection site for donated cold weather resources to be delivered to Transylvania County has been established at New Covenant Fellowship Church, 1305 Hulsey Road, in Carthage. Donations will be accepted from 8:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 12, Friday, Dec. 13, and Saturday, Dec. 14. Moore County volunteers will deliver the supplies to Anchor Baptist Ministries in Transylvania County the following week.

Requested resources include coats and boots for children and adults of all ages and sizes. While coats and boots are especially needed, other cold-weather items, such as blankets, socks, hats, gloves, etc., will also be accepted. Only new items will be accepted.

Additionally, citizens wishing to offer housing or debris removal assistance will find more details and may indicate their available resources via a form on the Moore County website at: www.moorecountync.gov. If unable to complete the form online, citizens may call 910-947-4361 for staff assistance.
